The in-between layers — gilets and cardigans that add warmth without the commitment of a jacket.

A gilet solves the specific problem of a cold core and warm arms, which is most of spring and autumn. Cardigans do the same job with sleeves, and unbutton into something far more relaxed than a pullover ever manages. Both work under outerwear in deep winter and on their own either side of it.
